Hi everyone,
It's been a long time since I've used this blog, but just wanted to pass on some updates to everyone. As many of you probably are aware, Scott Luczak has recently left the district to pursue an administration opening in the Northwest School District. As a result, we have had to do some quick shuffling of staff on the boys side of the program and Coach Mertens has been appointed to head the boys program. Andrew and I have had many conversations on bringing the boys and girls program into greater unity and I'm pleased to announce that both programs will begin to work together for fundraising and special projects. One of those new connections is that I will start moving towards using our new Lindbergh Soccer page on Facebook. I encourage all of you to find Lindbergh Soccer on Facebook and make sure you "Like" it. This will soon become our primary means of electronic communication. We want all the girls to make sure and support the boys teams this fall by coming out to some games. It's going to be a great year for Lindbergh Soccer!

The varsity kicks off district play tomorrow night at 6 pm at Mehlville against Mehlville. There is a gate for all district soccer events, I believe its $4. We encourage everyone associated with the program to come out and support the team.
Uniform turn in for both freshman and j.v. teams will take place after school next week on Wednesday 5/16. The j.v. team will also be conducting post season evaluations on this day as well as having an end of the season pizza party.

Great Monday for the program
Congrats to all three teams for their victories on Monday. The freshman posted a 3-0 victory, J.V. won 6-0 and varsity won 5-1. The varsity and junior varsity are at home today against conference rivals Eureka at 4:15 and 6. Freshman girls team, we need a couple of you to hang around and be "ball girls" for the next 4 varsity home games. We have home games tonight, Thursday and then Wednesday and Thursday next week. All freshman level players are expected to do this duty one time. We need two girls per night.
Another reminder that our trivia night is this weekend!! If you haven't gotten a table together yet, do so today. Please contact Kim Butz to sign up for a table.
We will be doing a day with the SPENSA soccer program on May 12. Exact times will be forwarded soon, but all it entails is working a couple of hours in the morning with a soccer program for kids with special needs.Coach Dorsey is our lead contact man on this and we are looking for volunteers from all 3 teams.

Varsity in championship of the CYC tourney tonight
Hello all,
We would love to have players and families from all levels come out and support the varsity tonight in the championship of the CYC tournament. We are the defending champions of this classic St. Louis tournament and playing against our long time rivals Oakville. The game is at SoccerPark in Fenton at 7:45.
Also, we are behind in the number of tables for the upcoming Trivia Night. This is a really fun event and we need everyone's support. Please help us out by putting a table together. Players, you are also encouraged to put together a table with your friends both in and out of the soccer program.

Varsity wins tournament
Congrats to the varsity soccer team for its victories in the Webster Invitational last week. The team won a solid victory on Saturday against Webster in the championship match. In four games, the Flyers gave up zero goals and scored 10. This week the varsity is in action in the CYC tournament with the first game scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:45 on field 5 at the SoccerPark.
Don't forget to sign up for our trivia night. We only have two weeks left before the event.

WC St. Louis U-15 openings
Chris Fuchs from WC St. Louis contacted me regarding his club and I told him that I would pass on information about openings on their current U15 squad. This would apply to current freshman in our program. They will be playing state cup this June as well as a full summer and fall of activity. If you are interested in picking up a club team this might be a good fit for you.

Week of 4/16
The j.v. and varsity had a successful trip to Columbia on Friday night with both teams posting victories. In terms of offensive movement, it was probably the varsity's best showing to date. We looked quicker, worked harder and produced more opportunities that we have in recent games.
The j.v. has a strange and frustrating schedule for the next two weeks. The girls are without games during this period. We will continue to train hard during this time and attempt to provide some of the group with opportunites in freshman and varsity games.
The varsity is in action this week starting Wednesday in the Webster/Kirkwood Tournament. All games are played in our pool at Kirkwood High School with games slated for Wed., Thurs, and Friday and hopefully a championship on Saturday.
The freshman have two games this week, going to Ursuline today and playing Oakville on Wednesday.
Don't forget about our Trivia Night on May 5. Get your tables together and invite your friends. It really is a "fun" fundraiser.

Updates for the week of 4/9
First in freshman soccer, a solid win for the freshman against Lafayette last Friday 1-0. The score does not reflect the possession dominance and we were unlucky to not get a few more. Freshman team is on the road this week with games at Hazelwood West on Monday and Marquette on Wednesday.
J.V. and Varsity are also on the road all week. The two teams battle Marquette and Oakville on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Both teams then travel to Columbia for matches against Hickman Friday night. Contrary to past years, this will be a one night event, with a return trip to St. Louis that evening. We will provide bus transportation to and from the event. Players will be dismissed at 12:45 on Friday will the bus leaving by 1. Games are at 5 and 6:30. The j.v. continued its winning ways with a solid 4-0 victory against Rock Bridge on Saturday. The varsity conceded a first half goal and despite a strong assault in the second half they couldn't climb back into the game and fell to Rock Bridge 0-1.
Mike Butz has sent out an email regarding our upcoming trivia night. I will also be providing the girls a hard copy of this information this week.

Reminder about weekend games
Just a reminder to all that we have games over the 3 day weekend break on all levels. The freshman team is in action at 4 on Friday at Lafayette. Varsity and junior varsity are both in action at noon on Saturday hosting Rock Bridge. The varsity team will not practice on Friday.

Daily report for Tuesday 4/3
Overall, a successful Monday of games with all 3 levels in action. On the freshman level, we travelled to Clayton where our girls were very successful in a 6-0 victory. At home, the junior varsity totally dominated Mehlville with a 9-0 victory. I was very impressed with the flow of the game and the possession. Way to go j.v.!! The varsity was held to a 0-0 tie under odd circumstances. We were not able to turn on the lights to the field and the officials were forced to halt the game due to limited sight. The varsity clearly had the better of the play in the second half with Mehlville twice having to clear off their line. I don't remember a Mehlville shot on goal in the second half as the defense did an outstanding job of covering for each other.
Practice today for all 3 levels. J.V. and Varsity in action Wednesday at Parkway South at 4:15 and 6. Freshman in action on Friday at Lafayette.
You will be getting info about our fun and exciting Trivia Night this week. Also, there are forms circulating for players and parents for spirit wear. I wrapped up our coupon book sales and they were an amazing success. 23 girls sold enough books, 15, to earn a warm up jacket and another 13 sold enough to get the drawstring bag. Those should be in late next week.

Today 3/2 in Lindbergh soccer
Hope everyone had a great weekend and ready to get back into the swing with our teams. All 3 levels are in action today. Varsity and J.V. are at home with games at 4 and 6. The freshman travel to Clayton for a 4 p.m. game. Several people have inquired about needing schedules and rosters. Coaches on all levels have passed them out and if you need additional copies please check with the coach on that level to get some more. We will have copies of the varsity/j.v. roster at our first home games today for distribution.

Flyers Soccer Update 3/29
First, a tough loss for the freshman yesterday. I got to see the second half and it was all Lindbergh at that point. A lot of quality possession and strong efforts to use the whole field. Although we lost 1-2, no doubt that our girls showed a much higher quality of play. Freshman continue play today with a home game at 4.
The varsity is in action at 4 at Hazelwood West today.
Thanks to soccer mom Laura Rossi for putting together a spirit wear order form. Players should be getting these today through their teams. We want a quick turnaround on these so if you plan on ordering, we would like to get forms back by next Tuesday.

Results from 3/27
Congratulations to the freshman and junior varsity teams for their wins yesterday. The freshman kicked off their season with a 4-0 victory over Parkway North. They will continue play today with another home game in the Lindbergh Invitational. The junior varsity continued their winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Webster Groves.
In varsity action last night, the varsity could not find the equalizing goal and came out with a defeat against Triad 1-2. The varsity will practice today and resume competition tomorrow, Thursday, in the Hazelwood Tournament.

New local soccer website- check it out!
I just wanted to send you info on a new local soccer website soccerstl.net They covered the varsity game last night and he's got a couple photos up on the high school page already and is supposed to be posting more soon. This site is inot to be confused with stlsoccer.net, which is another good source of local soccer news but tends to get a little crazy on the message boards some time.

Varsity starts season with a win
Congrats to the varsity for a 3-0 victory over hazelwood central on Monday. Tzianos recorded the first shutout of the year with goals from Noll, Black, and Koppy. The varsity will play at Summit tomorrow at 4. We will be all green
Let the Games Begin!!
Ok, well the games "officially' began over spring break with a strong showing from our j.v., but this week begins competition on all 3 levels of our program. Starting today, the varsity travels north for a game against Hazelwood Central at 4 p.m. in the Hazelwood Classic Tournament. J.V. picks up a game against Webster Groves on Tuesday, and the freshman begin their tournament with a home game on Tuesday as well.
Good luck to all the teams and congrats on a fantastic effort of fundraising. We still have a couple of folks turning in stuff today, but I can tell you that we will more than reach our goal. You guys are awesome and we appreciate everyones efforts.
Our updates via this system are arriving delayed in some cases. This blast is being sent out around 9:30 on Monday morning. If you are experiencing exceptionally delayed postings, please let me know. We may need to find an alternative system as we encountered some not knowing that practice was cancelled on Friday. If in doubt, you can always check lindberghgirlssoccer.blogspot.com even if you do not receive an email or facebook update.

Our next practice is on Sunday from 6-7:30 pm and that practice will occur rain or shine. Some players are still not linked into this email system, so if you know of a friend who was planning on going to practice this morning, you might call them and let them know its off.

J.V. finishes strong in opening tournament (and other news)
Congrats to the j.v for the great showing in the Northwest Tournament. The team wrapped up play today with an impressive 7-0 over Northwest tonight. I was really impressed with the quality of possession and overall movement of the ball. To date, the j.v has scored 10 goals and allowed only 1.
A reminder on the rest of the week: Varsity and freshman teams have practice Friday morning from 8-9:30. Sunday night practice is from 6-7:30pm. I would also encourage any j.v. players to come out Sunday night.
All coupon book sales need to be wrapped up by the end of spring break and returned to Coach Giesing.
Throughout the year, do not be surprised at the movement of players between levels. We expect to be competitve on every level and will regularly move players to meet the needs not only of the program, but individual player needs as well. For example, a varsity player receiving little playing time might be assigned a game or two at the j.v. to maintain game fitness and touch. Similarly, a freshman level player might be challenged to play on the j.v. level if her play warrants a move. The teams are not static and we must continue to support the philosophy that we are a unified program, not 3 disjointed teams. Usually we will try to give a player a week's notice of movement to another team.

Program updates 3/20
Hope everyone is enjoying the spring break week. I just wanted to keep everyone up to date on a couple of things for the week. First, the j.v. opened up action yesterday with a tough loss to Eureka 0-1. Play was fairly balanced. We looked the better team in terms of possession, but Eureka had several quality looks at the goal as well. the j.v. continues in action today with a game at 4, and wraps up the week with a game on 5:30 on Wednesday. All games are at Northwest High School.
Freshman and varsity teams have practice on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8-9:30, and another practice from 6-7:30 Sunday evening. Freshman players will get uniforms on the Sunday evening practice.
Some of you still have coupon book sales out. If this is the case please get them to Coach Giesing as soon as possible.

Looking at the week of 3/12
This is our last official week of "pre-season" before our junior varsity team opens up competition with the Northwest Tournament over spring break. This week we will be incorportating a lot of full field scrimmage into our practices. Weather permitting we will have a varsity/j.v. scrimmage on Tuesday. On Thursday the varsity will have an intra-squad scrimmage and the freshman will go against the j.v. Parents if you can't wait for that first game, you are welcome to come up Thursday for the preview. Expected game start up times would be around 3:30.
We hope you are having success with our fundraiser and appreciate all your efforts. We want to conclude sales by this Friday, before spring break. There will be practice this Friday for all 3 levels at our normal time.
Uniforms should be in by Wednesday, its getting close and I'm getting a little nervous!!
We will have a few sheduled practices over break for the freshman and varsity teams. The practices will be on Wednesday and Friday from 8-9:30 am and Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. The freshman and varsity both open up with tournaments the week of 3/26.

Cograts on a great first week
Congrats to all the girls for a fantastic first week. The coaching staff is very excited to see the effort and energy on all levels. We regretfully had to make some cuts and this is always the most difficult day for all of us. I know several of you are still anxious about knowing more about where you exactly fit in the program. Each player in the program will have a personal conversation with the coaching staff on Monday to discuss placement for the start of the year. The quality of talent, along with some difficult weather, have forced us to delay these decisions until Monday.
Today we handed out our coupon books for our fundraiser. None of us like selling this type of stuff. With 5 kids of my own, trust me, I feel your pain. But the reality is that we need to raise money to continue to maintain our program. Both the varsity and junior varsity will be getting new home and away uniforms from this money. It also goes to buying pre-game shirts, and home and away socks for all three levels. It also goes to the end of the year banquet and end of the year celebrations. So while its never fun, we ask everyone to try and do their fair share and sell their coupon books.
We will be getting game schedules out to everyone on Monday. There have been a few revisions, particularly to the varsity schedule, since our pre-season meeting.

Soccer update 2/28
It looks like we will get practice in before the rain, so please plan on outdoor practice today. We will meet down on the fields and practice will end by 5:30. I thought we had a great opening day. A lot of enthusiasm and certainly I saw a lot of potential. Today we will get into some small game stuff as well as continue some skill evaluations. Keep working hard!!

Let the Fun Begin!!
What a great day for our first day of tryouts. This week we have some bad weather expected tomorrow so please make sure you have indoor shoes with you. If we are not able to get out to the fields tomorrow, we will have the juniors and seniors come in from 4-6, and the underclassmen from 3-5. Otherwise, practices for all players this week will run until 5:30. We hope to conclude our tryout sessions by Wednesday of this week, but with the possibility of rain we may have to move that back to Thursday. I can't wait to get on the fields.

Are you ready for Feb. 27?
Our start date is just around the corner and I hope everyone is continuing to work on their fitness and preparing themselves for the start of our season. Make sure that at this point you should be in daily training to get your body ready for the demands of high school soccer. Also, if you have not done so already, stop by the athletic office and get your slip of paper confiming that your physical is on file and you and your parents have completed the waiver form. Don't wait till the 27th to do this. Without athletic department clearance, you cannot tryout for the team.

Reminder about Friday night futsal
We have our second, and final, Friday night futsal event this Friday once again at C4. The weather was a little rough last time so hopefully the roads will be clear and we'll have a great attendance. We will again need some help working with a U9 team from 5:30-6:30 then we have the court from 6:30-8:30 for games. I would like to have at least 5-6 girls available to help at 5:30. I am still looking to get some Sunday night open gyms at LHS and will forward information as I get it. In the meantime, keep running and work on fitness. With the warm weather, hopefully you have been able to get out and get some solid workouts.

address for C4 for Friday night futsal
The C4 complex for our Friday night futsal is located at 12691 Conway Rd. Its not really visible from the road and when you are on Conway look for two large brick pillars with raquets on them and that is the entrance to the facility. I usually take 270 to 40 to Ballas and head towards St. John's hospital. Make a right on Conway and then C4 will be on your right. As it turns out, I can't attend this Friday but other members of the staff will be there.

Reminder about "free" futsal night this Friday
Hello to all,
Just a reminder that we have an open gym futsal opportunity this Friday 1/20 at the C4 complex. Its a great oportunity to brush up on your footskills, and start to prepare yourself for the upcoming season. For our freshman, its a chance to meet some of the other girls in the program. No coaching takes place, we just roll out a ball and let you have some fun. I am asking that those than can assist, we are helping train a U9 girls team from 5:30-6:30, then we have the gym for two hours 6:30-8:30. If you haven't already contacted me if you will be able to attend, please do so this week. I will send out directions later this week, but it's located in West County, close to St. John's Hospital.
