Flyers Soccer Update 3/29

First, a tough loss for the freshman yesterday.  I got to see the second half and it was all Lindbergh at that point.  A lot of quality possession and strong efforts to use the whole field.  Although we lost 1-2, no doubt that our girls showed a much higher quality of play.  Freshman continue play today with a home game at 4.

The varsity is in action at 4 at Hazelwood West today.

Thanks to soccer mom Laura Rossi for putting together a spirit wear order form.  Players should be getting these today through their teams.  We want a quick turnaround on these so if you plan on ordering, we would like to get forms back by next Tuesday.

Results from 3/27

Congratulations to the freshman and junior varsity teams for their wins yesterday.  The freshman kicked off their season with a 4-0 victory over Parkway North.  They will continue play today with another home game in the Lindbergh Invitational.  The junior varsity continued their winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Webster Groves.

In varsity action last night, the varsity could not find the equalizing goal and came out with a defeat against Triad 1-2.  The varsity will practice today and resume competition tomorrow, Thursday, in the Hazelwood Tournament.

New local soccer website- check it out!

I just wanted to send you info on a new local soccer website soccerstl.net  They covered the varsity game last night and he's got a couple photos up on the high school page already and is supposed to be posting more soon.  This site is inot to be confused with stlsoccer.net, which is another good source of local soccer news but tends to get a little crazy on the message boards some time.

Varsity starts season with a win

Congrats to the varsity for a 3-0 victory over hazelwood central on Monday. Tzianos recorded the first shutout of the year with goals from Noll, Black, and Koppy. The varsity will play at Summit tomorrow at 4. We will be all green

Let the Games Begin!!

Ok, well the games "officially' began over spring break with a strong showing from our j.v., but this week begins competition on all 3 levels of our program.  Starting today, the varsity travels north for a game against Hazelwood Central at 4 p.m. in the Hazelwood Classic Tournament.  J.V. picks up a game against Webster Groves on Tuesday, and the freshman begin their tournament with a home game on Tuesday as well.

Good luck to all the teams and congrats on a fantastic effort of fundraising.  We still have a couple of folks turning in stuff today, but I can tell you that we will more than reach our goal.  You guys are awesome and we appreciate everyones efforts.

Our updates via this system are arriving delayed in some cases.  This blast is being sent out around 9:30 on Monday morning.  If you are experiencing exceptionally delayed postings, please let me know.  We may need to find an alternative system as we encountered some not knowing that practice was cancelled on Friday.  If in doubt, you can always check lindberghgirlssoccer.blogspot.com even if you do not receive an email or facebook update.

Friday practice cancelled due to rain

With rain already occuring this morning and appearing to continue for the next couple of hours, we will cancel practice for this morning.  Our next practice is on Sunday from 6-7:30 pm and that practice will occur rain or shine.  Some players are still not linked into this email system, so if you know of a friend who was planning on going to practice this morning, you might call them and let them know its off.

J.V. finishes strong in opening tournament (and other news)

Congrats to the j.v for the great showing in the Northwest Tournament.  The team wrapped up play today with an impressive 7-0  over Northwest tonight.  I was really impressed with the quality of possession and overall movement of the ball.   To date, the j.v has scored 10 goals and allowed only 1.

A reminder on the rest of the week:  Varsity and freshman teams have practice Friday morning from 8-9:30.  Sunday night practice is from 6-7:30pm.  I would also encourage any j.v. players to come out Sunday night.

All coupon book sales need to be wrapped up by the end of spring break and returned to Coach Giesing.

Throughout the year, do not be surprised at the movement of players between levels.  We expect to be competitve on every level and will regularly move players to meet the needs not only of the program, but individual player needs as well.  For example, a varsity player receiving little playing time might be assigned a game or two at the j.v. to maintain game fitness and touch.  Similarly, a freshman level player might be challenged to play on the j.v. level if her play warrants a move.  The teams are not static and we must continue to support the philosophy that we are a unified program, not 3 disjointed teams.  Usually we will try to give a player a week's notice of movement to another team.

Program updates 3/20

Hope everyone is enjoying the spring break week.  I just wanted to keep everyone up to date on a couple of things for the week.  First, the j.v. opened up action yesterday with a tough loss to Eureka 0-1.  Play was fairly balanced.  We looked the better team in terms of possession, but Eureka had several quality looks at the goal as well.  the j.v. continues in action today with a game at 4, and wraps up the week with a game on 5:30 on Wednesday.  All games are at Northwest High School.

Freshman and varsity teams have practice on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8-9:30, and another practice from 6-7:30 Sunday evening.  Freshman players will get uniforms on the Sunday evening practice.

Some of you still have coupon book sales out.  If this is the case please get them to Coach Giesing as soon as possible.

Looking at the week of 3/12

This is our last official week of "pre-season" before our junior varsity team opens up competition with the Northwest Tournament over spring break.  This week we will be incorportating a lot of full field scrimmage into our practices.  Weather permitting we will have a varsity/j.v. scrimmage on Tuesday.  On Thursday the varsity will have an intra-squad scrimmage and the freshman will go against the j.v.  Parents if you can't wait for that first game, you are welcome to come up Thursday for the preview.  Expected game start up times would be around 3:30.

We hope you are having success with our fundraiser and appreciate all your efforts.  We want to conclude sales by this Friday, before spring break.  There will be practice this Friday for all 3 levels at our normal time.

Uniforms should be in by Wednesday, its getting close and I'm getting a little nervous!!

We will have a few sheduled practices over break for the freshman and varsity teams.  The practices will be on Wednesday and Friday from 8-9:30 am and Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m.  The freshman and varsity both open up with tournaments the week of 3/26.

Cograts on a great first week

Congrats to all the girls for a fantastic first week.  The coaching staff is very excited to see the effort and energy on all levels.  We regretfully had to make some cuts and this is always the most difficult day for all of us. I know several of you are still anxious about knowing more about where you exactly fit in the program.  Each player in the program will have a personal conversation with the coaching staff on Monday to discuss placement for the start of the year.  The quality of talent, along with some difficult weather, have forced us to delay these decisions until Monday.

Today we handed out our coupon books for our fundraiser.  None of us like selling this type of stuff.  With 5 kids of my own, trust me, I feel your pain.  But the reality is that we need to raise money to continue to maintain our program. Both the varsity and junior varsity will be getting new home and away uniforms from this money.  It also goes to buying pre-game shirts, and home and away socks for all three levels.  It also goes to the end of the year banquet and end of the year celebrations.  So while its never fun, we ask everyone to try and do their fair share and sell their coupon books.

We will be getting game schedules out to everyone on Monday.  There have been a few revisions, particularly to the varsity schedule, since our pre-season meeting.
